Presentation by Dr. Armando Russo, The Italian Language “Its not what you think it is”.
Join us for a very interesting look into the history of the Italian language.
Most people think of the Italian language the way they might think of English, French, Spanish or some other global language. But, most of the people that left Italy in the “grand diaspora” were not fluent in Italian, they spoke in what is commonly referred to as “Italian dialect.” Through a you tube video and a short presentation on the subject, you will see that what most people know about Italian and the “dialects” is not necessarily what is true. The presentation is structured to be in two parts
Part I: focus on the general concepts as just mentioned from a linguistic perspective
Part II: the development of standard Italian as it evolved since Unification and the modern iterations of today
